Maria Bohm
Born 1984 in a small town outside of Gothenburg, Sweden, Maria found herself drawn to the piano very early, as well as singing and listening to a great variety of music. She started writing her own music at 9, but it wasn’t until the age of 22, when studying at a Music Production and Engineering education in Skara, that she realized that she had her own mark to leave on the music industry.
The first album, Bloody Mary, had all female names in the sleeve, tipping the scale a little in what is otherwise known as a pretty male dominated entertainement industry. The sophomore creation Animalic, with all animal titles, has part of proceeds going to animal rights. The albums are both distributed by her own company, Bloody Mary Music, a record company she started at 24 when not feeling comfortable with the deals the major labels would offer.
With and original voice and sound she tries to tackle both the big and the small questions, accompanied by melodies that haunt you and follow you around. While compared to the likes of Kate Bush and Tori Amos, she herself only defines it as “piano rock”. To Maria, it’s all about the music, and the music is pretty damn awesome!
